Efficiency: Reliable Water Aeration and Filtration
This pump boasts of decent aeration performance. It supports a pump flow rate of 2500 gallons per hour and a system flow rate of 1900 gallons per hour.
The performance of this pump is above average and will prove reliable across a wide range of pool capacities. The pump is rated for pools of 4,000-15,000 gallons in capacity.
You’ll appreciate this wide capacity range when, for instance, you upgrade your pool tona larger-capacity one. You won’t need to buy a new pump for it, as long as the capacity is 15,000 gallons or less.
It boasts of Intex’s high-performance Hydro Aeration® Technology, which transforms the water aeration process and enhances it to achieve superior water circulation and filtrations. Another benefit of this technology is improved clarity for an enhanced swimming experience.
Clarity enhancement is achieved through the aeration process, which effectively induces and oxidation of manganese and iron to price a sparkling pool that will feel very pleasant to swim in.
Expect this technology to also enhance the number of negative ions at the water surface, which helps create an air of constant freshness around your pool.
To further enhance the filtration process, an air release valve has been added at the top of the filter chamber, to effectively release trapped air during the pumping process. Another similar component that boosts performance is a sediment flush valve.
Another efficiency-boosting feature you’ll enjoy using is the pump automatic timer, which comes preset with pumping cycles of 2 to 12 hours. This feature allows you to flexibly choose a desired run time and then leave the pump to run without your supervision.
Although this pump demonstrates high performance and reliability across many pool sizes, it is working flawlessly with Intex above ground pools. To use it on smaller pools, you may need to add adapters, which may prove to be a tedious process.
Design & Construction: Compact and Strong Build
For a pool pump that packs quite the punch, the 28633EG is impressively compact. Measuring only 18.5 x 13.75 x 16 inches in size, it is not very conspicuous when it’s running outside.
This pump adopts strong build materials, which support its outdoor uses. The motor assemble is enclosed in strong metallic housing, which protects the delicate component against the elements, and against dust and debris.
Both the cartridge and motor components rest on a strong base, which ensures they are both constantly elevated from the ground, providing an extra layer of protection.
Shifting to the filter cartridge, this part has a strong housing as well, which has several design enhancements to ensure the filter is securely locked and free from external elements.
A strong filter housing cover and filter housing collar combine to offers some degree of filter insulation, ensuring the interior of the entire housing is tightly sealed.
Perhaps because of the heavy-duty construction of this pump, the entire unit weighs about 20 pounds, which is not exactly lightweight. That said, the weight shouldn’t pose any portability challenges across short distances.
Installation and Maintenance: Fast and Simplified
Intex simplifies the design and installation procedure of the 28633EG such that anyone can do it without requiring a professional service.
Although partial assembly is required, the only thing you’ll need to do to get the pump up and running is hose attachment, and then plugging the unit into the prescribed power outlet.
It’s rather disappointing, however, that vital installation components such as the plunger valves and the 1-1/2-inch outlet fittings have not been included with the pump. You will need to buy these separately.
Pump maintenance is a hassle-free process, and you can accomplish the same with relative ease. Simply remove the old cartridge and replace it with a new one every couple of weeks. Intex recommends changing the cartridge every 2 weeks.
When purchasing replacement cartridge, get the recommended Intex Type B 29005E, to ensure you get the best performance from this component.
You can also use the pump’s heavy-duty base as a mounting platform for the entire pump unit, in case you opt for a more permanent installation. There are holes on the base for facilitating mounting.
Price: A Great Bargain for the Price
This pool pump offers a lot of value for such a pocket-friendly price. It is one of the best performing pumps from Intex and this is evident from its high turnover rate of 1,900 GPH.
You’re also getting a lot of operating conveniences thanks to the pump’s automatic timer, with a wide range of operating cycles, allowing you to attend to other tasks as the pool is aerated.
Maintenance is simplified by the pump’s easy filter cartridge changes, which you can accomplish effortlessly, in a few minutes.
Because the 28633EG supports a wide range of pool capacities, which means that even when you upgrade to a larger above-ground pool of up to 15,000 gallons, you can still use this pump.
Intex does offer some other pool pump models that compete well with the 28633EG. One such pump is the Intex 28635E. It is marginally smaller and lighter than the 28633EG pump, and also offers the same simplistic operation and easy cartridge filter changes.
The Intex 28635E is, however, less powerful and thus supports a significantly lower pool capacity range, than the better performing 28633EG, even though the price difference is marginal. Therefore, go for the 28633EG, which offers better value.
Verdict
A powerful pool pump ideal for aerating, filtering small-to-medium pools efficiently, while simplifying operations and maintenance.
The superior system and pump flow rates supported by 28633EG enable it to efficiently aureate pools of up to 15,000 gallons, while still managing to simplify operation using an automatic timer with preset cycles.
