Table saws are some of the most comprehensive woodworking tools because they can be used to make different types of cuts.

One such tool is the DeWalt DWE7491RS and apart from being able to make different types of cuts, it has an innovative design that incorporates the use of a telescopic fence to extend its rip cutting capacity. The tool has much more to offer so let’s dive right into it.

Performance:Practicality in a Small Package

Though compact, DeWalt’s DWE7491RS has a very practical design because it has a wide maximum rip capacity of 32.5 inches to the right side of the blade.

This is made possible by a rack and pinion telescopic fence, which extends outward from the table to help you cut wider pieces accurately.

Additionally, this fence has a material holder that helps to support these wide and heavy pieces and can be flipped over towards the blade to be used for narrow rip cutting.

The left side of the blade also has a relatively wide rip capacity of 22 inches. Combined with the right side, this saw is ideal for ripping floorboards, filler boards, deck boards, framing lumber, and many others.

That said, cutting is done using a 10-inch diameter 24-tooth carbide-tipped blade, which gives a maximum cutting depth of 3.13 inches at a 90º angle to the table’s surface. It can be tilted to a 45º angle to make bevel cuts and at this position; the maximum cutting depth is 2.25 inches.

The blade can also be used to make dado cuts and can cut a maximum width of 13/16 inches.

Power is provided by a 15-amp motor, which spins a maximum speed of 4800 RPM. This provides enough torque and speed to cut through softwoods and hardwoods with ease.

Design: Compact and Easy to Use

A big part of what makes this tool stand out is its compact and easy-to-use design. For instance, the telescopic fence can be easily installed and extended on the right side of the blade. It can be easily retracted and fitted under the table to create a small, portable package after use.

Another innovative design is the rolling stand. This can be easily set up by unfolding the four legs, and it provides a more stable base that can withstand tough worksite conditions. After use, these legs can be folded to create a compact, easily movable tool.

You get a convenient on-board storage feature that keeps all accessories and tools like push sticks, wrenches, miter gauges, and cord wraps within close reach underneath the table.

Portability: Wheeled Rolling Cage

The table saw’s rolling cage is fitted with two large wheels that make it easy to pull across flat ground or steps.

These touch the ground after folding in the legs of the frame while a handle at the bottom ensures you lift the whole saw before pulling it. As a result, you get a long ground clearance during transportation.

Safety Feature: Multiple Protection Features

DeWalt’s DWE7491RS comes with a modular blade guard assembly that is quick and easy to install. This keeps the sharp edges of the blade fully covered to minimize the chances of accidental cuts.

This blade guard assembly houses a 2.5-inch dust port that can be hooked up to a shop vac for efficient dust extraction. As a result, you get a cleaner working surface while minimizing dust particles in the air that might harm your eyes or your lungs when inhaled.

An anti-kickback pawl is included as part of this assembly and this helps to prevent kickbacks, which can be very dangerous, especially when cutting at very high speeds. You get a riving knife that helps to prevent kickbacks when you cut without using the guard.

After use, the blade can be easily lowered into the table, which keeps the entire table safely flat when not in use and makes transportation less hazardous.

Accessories: Fully Packed

With its relatively high price, this DWE7491RS comes fully packed with accessories that will help you get started straight out of the box.

For instance, you get a push stick, which is used to direct stock when making very narrow rip cuts. This ensures you keep your fingers at a safe distance from the blade. Two wrenches are also included and these come in very handy when replacing the blade.

If you want to make angled miter cuts, the saw is well-equipped for that because it comes with a miter gauge. This helps you to hold workpieces steadily at an angle while sliding it through slots on the tabletop. All these are packed in the convenient on-board storage space for easy access.

Price: Worth its Price

DeWalt’s DWE7491RS is quite expensive. However, it does justify its price because it has an innovative design that places all its accessories and extra tools on board. One important accessory is the telescopic fence, which makes the tool very practical.

That said, the tool is significantly expensive than other DeWalt table saws, except the DWE7491X, which costs about $20 more. Both are very similar, but the latter is equipped with a scissor stand instead of a rolling stand and is a bit lighter.

Verdict

A compact and easy-to-use table saw that is ideal for professional use in remote projects.

The DeWalt DWE7491RS is innovative built to increase the rip capacity while maintaining a compact design. Additionally, it has a handle and two large wheels that make transportation very easy.

This design makes it ideal for professional carpenters who are working on remote projects. It is quite expensive and therefore, beginners, DIYers and hobbyists can buy the tool if they don’t mind the cost.
